ORILLIA, ON, Dec. 17, 2015 /CNW/ - Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged two persons following a complex investigation into allegations of wrongdoing involving the handling of computer data.
The investigation, conducted by members of the OPP Anti-Rackets Branch who were led by a Major Case Manager of the Criminal Investigation Branch, began in June of 2013. In consultation with the Public Prosecution Service of Canada (PPSC), the findings of the investigation have resulted in criminal charges being laid on December 17, 2015 against:
Each has been charged with one count of Breach of Trust contrary to Section 122 of the Criminal Code of Canada, one count of Mischief in relation to data contrary to Section 430(5)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada, and one count of Misuse of a computer system to commit the offense of Mischief contrary to Section 342.1 of the Criminal Code of Canada.
Both accused will make their first appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice (Old City Hall) in Toronto on January 27th, 2016.
The OPP will not comment further on matters of evidence in order to protect the integrity of the investigation and the ensuing court process.
